Yesterday I genuinely enjoyed teaching. I finished the day and thought to myself, "I think I like this. Why don't I like it on so many other days?"
One child was absent yesterday, and that made all the difference.
There was no one to plant little device ideas in their heads. No one to sing chants as we walked down the hall. No one trying to hide from me as we walked down the hall. No one touched anyone else as we walked down the hall. No one to start fights, or call people names. No one tried to over take my class, or throw things at me. In fact, no one talked back to me. No one got kicked out of gym. No one spent time with me during my prep-time.
It was an incredible day. My children were able to work in groups. No one said they hated their group members. They did what they were asked. They were quite when they were supposed to be quiet and loud when they were allowed to be loud. They shared pencils with each other. They had real conversations with one another.
And, I'm pretty sure they all learned something.

Somedays are like that, even in Australia.
