Fiction vs. Non Fiction

I'm not sure I'm making a difference here in the city. I thought I was-until today.

I was sitting with one of my reading groups at school. We're reading a story about four tabby cats who have wings. We are in the last chapter of the book and one of my kids looks up at me and says, "Ms. Passey, I think this is a fiction book."

So far, so good. I bet you had figured that out just by the brief description of "four tabby cats with wings."

"Yeah, Dustin? Why do you say that?"

"Well, the owl is really fat in this picture, but when you turn the page he's thinner. That doesn't happen in real life. He can't loose weight that fast, so it must be ficiton."

Awesome.

I'm pretty sure for the whole book he must have been wondering where the cats with wings live.
