Up-State New York

Carl has raved about a little area up in the Adirondacks for years. He used to camp there as a kid all the time, and has wanted to go back for as long as I've known him. The glitch is that it's a solid 10 hours north of Baltimore, and to make that kind of trek means you should probably stay more than a weekend.

Well, Carl was laid off last month, and I decided to take the summer off. We are a match made in heaven. We spent an entire week canoeing, hiking, reading, sitting around the campfire and exploring the Adirondacks.

You might also notice our attire: it was PERFECT camping weather (aside from the rain). Lows in the high 40's for sleeping (nothing like snuggling into your sleeping bag) and low 70's most days (never HOT! Perfect for mid-July!).We went into Lake Placid Saturday afternoon to get out of the rain in the woods. Carl had never seen Olympic venues (which are TINY compared to SLC! I mean TINY! Think high-school bleachers).

Now, I thought everyone had seen the movie Miracle. But clearly I was wrong. I guess just Katie Jo and I got super excited about Olympic movies, because Carl thought I was nuts for being THAT excited to actually be in the rink where the US Hockey team beat the invincible Russians in 1980. I was so, so, so excited.

Carl, less so.
This is the product of my attempt at making tin-foil dinners on Sunday. Read: they were burned to little charred blocks. We were hungry, so we dug out the middle and made do. Bless Carl, "They really are good, Ann. Once you dig off the sides and the top, they are really good. And plus, I wasn't really THAT hungry."
I've been trying to keep a serious face in pictures lately...but it clearly isn't going well.

Yes, I love exploration! Miracle is a must see for all those sports enthusiasts. I would have been excited with you, he is missing out.

First: I got my ears pierced at the mall in Lake Placid! Good times.

Second: I loved Miracle! We never actually went to the venues when we were there. Totally bummed about that now!

Third: Tinfoil dinners are hit and miss. Brent usually does a good job of cooking them. And always does an excellent job of seasoning them!

Fourth: Can't wait to see you!!!!!!! Got your postcard. thanks :)
