Have I mentioned we are the only white people on our block?
I don't exaggerate.
And our neighbors are SO wonderful. They ALL look out for us. Last weekend I tripped the alarm, and the police came to make sure we were okay. Every single neighbor knew about it, and wanted to make sure no one had been messing with us.
Tonight I had a flat tire. One set of neighbors saw that it was getting dark and we could use a flashlight, so they called another neighbor to bring us one, since they didn't have one themselves.
We have one neighbor in particular, who used to be a police man, and he has taken it on to be the street police man. We love him! He knows everything about everyone, and looks out for everyone.
It's funny because we don't actually SEE too many of our neighbors, but it's very evident that they make it a point to see us.
And that's really nice. :)

It sounds like you need to be looking out the windows at your neighbors more. Is the police officer the guy your looked at his place?
