Growing up, my parents had a globe in the living room. It was earthy brown, not bright blue like the ones at school that had all the countries in primary colors.
In my memory it has a light in it, so you could search for places even at night.
They also had maps on the kitchen wall.
I didn't realize how important that would be to me. Until this week. I've been collecting globes in my classroom for a project. And I've thought a lot about where I fit in the world. I've thought how grateful I am to live where I do, but that I'm also grateful to understand that the world is so much bigger than I am.
Thanks, Mom and Dad, for the dreams gathered looking at the world, and helping see what a big, beautiful place it is.

I don't recall these maps on the wall...
Will, the maps have been a recent addition in fact Mom has really wanted a nice one to hang in the family room. Ann, its funny cause the last time I was home Will and I were talking about the globe telling Sara how we would spin it and stop it with our finger and thats were you would serve your mission or live when you got older. I think our parents should invest in another one.
@Caitlyn. She may be trying to hang maps again, but we did have them up in the kitchen. We were always referring to them. I think that you were to young to remember the kitchen maps.
@Ann. Yes there was a light in it.
Will!! I had maps up all the time...sometimes in the family room, mostly on the kitchen wall. Maybe it was at the time when you didn't understand movies.
