Camping at the Beach

Andrew and I hadn't been camping yet this year. And camping season is almost over, so we decided we should go! We have been really good at inviting over new people who move into the ward, but we hadn't actually spent a whole lot of time with people who had been in the ward for a long time. So we invited some people to come along.

To our surprise, five other couples/families wanted to come!

We got down there pretty late Friday night, but it's never too late to sit around a fire! After we all got set up in the dark, we busted out the s'more supplies. It's fun to see what other families roast over fires. One couple roasted cupcakes, in addition to the usual marshmallow and chocolate s'more (Yes, that was IN ADDITION!). It was a crazy amount of sweetness.

Another family brought MASSIVE marshmallows that you could roast, eat that layer, and roast again.

Lydia was entranced by the fire, but who isn't?

We borrowed a tent from REI, since our tents are all 2-man tents and we thought we might want a little more room with Lydia. We assumed it had everything in it...but found out too late that there were no stakes. The wind was pretty fierce, and after laying there for a few hours listening to our rain-fly flap around, we decided we would actually sleep better with out it. Andrew pulled it off around 3 am, and we went right to sleep. It was windier and chillier, but we have great sleeping bags, so were actually really comfortable.

Me INSIDE the tent, sans rain-fly. It was pretty much a giant mosquito net without the rain-fly.

Room with a view.

Gourment Breakfast!

 Ponies!

Our crew headed to the water.

We learned some incredible sand castle building techniques from the Poseys!

Lydia's first time at the Ocean! She was a big fan. :)

REI Summer Picinic

When you go to an REI gathering you might see...

 Car racks on EVERY car.

 Lots of beautiful scenery.

And no pictures of people....

Work

Remember the other day when I was having nightmares about teaching in Young Women's? There was a key take away from nightmare number two.

You might remember that in the nightmare I had to work on Sunday. And REI had traded me to Target for the day. THAT was the nightmare. That REI didn't want me any more. :(

Such a shift from work-nightmares past where I wished so badly it would snow so I wouldn't have to go to work.....

I love my job. I love my hours. I love the people I work with. I love that they pay me to go out into the community and talk to people about getting outdoors.

A few weeks ago they sent me to a State Park event where families came as teams and we played a game to learn about Leave No Trace Principles. (This was BEFORE the event. It was MUCH busier during the actual event...I think we talked to over a 1,000 people that day.)

And I got paid the whole time.

I love my job.
